Freshbooks: Corey Reid

Corey writes about software development management, swordfighting and games on his website, and at FreshBooks, is expanding the hotshot development team to meet the challenges of the company’s rapid growth. He has pretty crazy ideas on what makes a great software team, mostly involving “Making Sure Developers Are Insanely Happy”.

Shopify: Edward Ocampo-Gooding

Edward Ocampo-Gooding is the guy to talk to about Shopify’s API and its App Store. One of the developers of both of those things, he works at Shopify by day and for Open Data Ottawa by night.

PixMatch and Piximilar by Idée: Martine and Paul – also known as the TinEye team.

Martine is a super talented developer at Idée by day and an gamer by night. Paul is obsessed with image search and is Idée‘s CTO. Corner him if you want to talk image search or large data.

Pretzil: Daniel Crawford

Dan is VP of engineering at Pretzil. He is an electrical engineer from UofO. He has 10+ years experience with numerous software companies across North America. Dan divides his spare time between long runs on Ottawa’s bike paths and analyzing insider trading activities on the TSX.

Zip.ca: Cory Taylor and Kareem Sultan

As a Software Developer at Momentous, Cory Taylor brings over five years’ experience in software architecture to build and create products and services for several affiliate companies.  He is currently Team Lead at Zip.ca, and as such, is responsible for Website, Streaming and API development.

Hard-working and passionate, Mr. Taylor advocates a pragmatic approach to software development. He believes in the Agile and Scrum methodologies, as well as Test and Behaviour driven development. Since studying Computer Science at Carleton University, he has worked in Enterprise Applications and Inventory Management at Farm Boy Inc, and in GIS mapping at Holinshed Research Group & Axxem Technologies. Mr. Taylor is an active member in the Ottawa tech community, attending Scrum, Agile and Microsoft user groups, various startup weekends, Demo Camps, and hack-athon events.

Kareem Sultan leads the technical initiatives at Momentous, and is responsible for the execution of the development required for the company’s projects. He brings a passion for entrepreneurship and technology to any project he works on.

Kareem honed his expertise working on both hardware and software development projects, from automating billing production and mailing processes to on-track auto racing recording equipment. He is particularly interested in the application of technology to solve problems and enhance the user experience.
